10 Medium Granny Smith Apples2 Teaspoons Ground Cinnamon1.25 Cups All-Purpose Flour0.75 Cup Brown Sugar0.25 Pound Butter0.66 Cup Brown Sugar0.25 Cup Hot Water0.5 LemonPreheat the oven to 350 degrees.In a lightly greased 12x9 pan, arrange apple slices and sprinkle with cinnamon. In a medium mixing bowl, mix together flour and brown sugar. Incorporate butter until a crumbly texture forms. It should look like a small peas, to large clumps of sand.In a medium mixing bowl add all ingredients for the Sweet Citrus Syrup and stir until well combined. Drizzle half of the syrup over the apple slices, top with the flour mixture, and drizzle the remaining syrup on top. Bake in the oven for 1 hour and serve immediately.
When testing this recipe, I used fresh apples from a local orchard. While fresh is always best - I must admit that I have used canned apple filling during the winter here in Chicago when I crave this recipe.
