To make the onion look like blossom vertically cut onion into quarters, cutting within 1/2-inch of root end. Then cut each quarter into thirds vertically. To make petals, gently use your fingers to separate the sections. In a pan of boiling water, place onion for about 1 minute. Remove from pan and transfer into ice water for about 5 minutes. Drain onion completely. In a zip lock plastic bag, place flour. In another bag, place breadcrumbs. In a shallow bowl, place egg. In the bag of flour, place onion pieces and shake to cover. Now, dip onion pieces into egg evenly. Then, place onion pieces in the bowl of cracker crumbs and toss to coat. Refrigerate to chill for about 1 hour. In a skillet, heat oil to 375 degrees and fry the onion for about 5-7 minutes or till golden brown. Transfer onion to a paper towel lined plate to drain. Sprinkle onion pieces with salt and serve alongside honey mustard dressing.
