Sauté onions for 15 minutes until golden brown. Add mushroom mixture to the skillet and saute for another 2-3 minutes. Remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly.Combine the vegetable mixture, with the cooked lentils, breadcrumbs, whisked egg, and salt, and stir to combine. Make 6 large sized patties from the mixture, and coat with a thin layer of cornmeal. Allow the patties to chill in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes to set up.Heat remaining oil in a cast iron skillet and fry for 3-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
