The monte cristro is a classic sandwich, typically filled with cheese, ham and turkey, and then dipped into a delicous egg batter and pan fried. In our updated version, we are featuring gouda instead of swiss cheese and have doubled up on the turkey. This is one of my favorite ways to eat up leftover Thanksgiving leftover turkey. Smart Recipes, American Recipes, Turkey Recipes, Recipes Turkey American Monte Cristo Sandwich Monte Cristo Sandwich Recipe | PT30M Serves 1 Ingredients: 2 Slices Of Texas Toast 1 Teaspoon Granulated Sugar 0.25 Pound Gouda Cheese 0.25 Pound Turkey Breast 1 Large Egg 1 Tablespoon Unsalted Butter 1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil 0.25 Cup All-Purpose Flour 0.25 Teaspoon Baking Powder 0.25 Cup Heavy Cream 0.125 Pinch Salt In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and cream. Combine the dry and wet ingredients, and stir to combine. The batter should fairly thin, just barely thick enough to coat the sandwich. Thin out with a splash of more milk, if it is too thick. Heat the olive oil and butter in a medium skillet over medium-high heat, meanwhile assemble the sandwiches by arranging the meat and cheese between the two slices of bread, and dip the whole sandwich into the batter. Fry the sandwiches on each side for about 4 minutes, or until golden brown and delicious. Garnish with a sprinkle of powdered sugar, and serve with a dollop of fresh raspberry jam.
