0.5 Cup Water1 Tablespoon Yeast1 Teaspoon Sugar2 Cups Milk0.5 Cup Butter0.5 Cup Shortening2 Eggs6 Cups All Purpose Flour0.25 Cup Granulated Sugar1 Tablespoon Salt4 Cups Raisins1 EggIn a bowl, dissolve 1 teaspoon of sugar and yeast in warm water and keep aside for about 10 minutes. In a pan, add milk and cook till just warmed. Add shortening and butter and stir till melted completely. Remove from heat. In a bowl, crack 2 eggs and beat well. Slowly, add warmed milk mixture into eggs and stir to combine. In another small bowl, mix together ½ cup of flour and raisins. In a large bowl, mix together 5 cups of flour, 1/4 cup of sugar and salt. Make a well in the center of flour mixture. Add yeast mixture and milk mixture in the well and stir to combine well. Add raisins and stir to combine. Add last cup of flour as needed and with your hands, knead well. Cover the bowl and keep aside in warm place for about 2 hours. Divide dough into 4 equal sized portions and shape into round loaves. Arrange loaves onto cookie sheets. With towels, cover cookie sheets and keep aside for about 45 minutes. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.Bake loaves for about 55 minutes. Coat the tops of loaves with beaten egg and bake for about 5 minutes.
