Keep all ingredients aside to cool completely. Heat a greased skillet and sauté onion until golden brown. Add ginger garlic paste and sauté until aromatic. Remove from heat and keep aside to cool. In a bowl, add onion mixture, peanuts, coconut, sesame seeds and 2-3 tablespoons water and mix until a rough paste is formed. In the same pan, heat oil and fry chilies for about 2-3 minutes. Transfer chilies into a bowl and keep aside. In the same skillet, add cumin and mustard seeds and sauté for about 30 seconds. Add curry leaves and sauté for about 20-30 seconds. Add coconut paste and enough water and cook until thin gravy is formed, stirring continuously. Stir in tamarind paste, chili powder, turmeric and garam masala and cook for about 5-8 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in cooked chilies and simmer over low heat until desired thickness of gravy.
