Transfer the mixture to a bowl and add split chickpeas, fennel seeds, curry leaves, diced onions and cilantro leaves. Mix well to combine. Heat oil for deep frying in a large saucepan over low heat. Meanwhile, shape the batter into small patties (roughly about 2 inches each). Add the patties to the heated oil. Fry 3 to 4 patties in a single session. Cook until they turn golden brown and crispy. Drain the patties from the oil using a slotted spoon and transfer them to a plate lined with a paper towel. Serve warm with green sauce or coconut chutney.
