In this recipe we use a simple refried pinto, but black beans would be delicious as well. Add garlic, onion, and red pepper and cook for 8-10 minutes until onion is softened, stirring occasionally. Stir in ground chile and cumin and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant. Drain beans, reserving their liquid, and add to pan along with 1/2 cup liquid. Stir and mash until beans form a slightly chunky purée and are heated through, about 3 minutes.
