Cover the pan and boil for about one hour. Drain beets well, reserving cooking liquid. Peel the beets and slice into matchsticks. Boil potatoes in the reserved cooking liquid for 15-20 minutes. In a skillet, heat cooking oil and sauté onion and carrot for about 7-10 minutes. Stir in ketchup and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Add cabbage to the soup pot when potatoes are half done. Add beets, carrot mixture, beans with liquid, broth, lemon juice, dill and bay leaves and cook for about 5-10 minutes. Season with salt, black pepper, dill and parsley.
