Here is my quick & easy take on a classic Italian seafood appetizer. Tender rings of squid are coated in a zesty batter and quickly deep fried to a golden crispy delight. Serve with lemon wedges or some of my homemade Puttanesca sauce for dipping. Smart Recipes, Mediterranean Recipes, Seafood Recipes, Recipes Seafood Mediterranean Fried Calamari Fried Calamari Recipe | PT4H30M Serves 4 Ingredients: 1 Pound Fresh Calamari 2 Cups Milk 1 Large Lemon 1 Teaspoon Tabasco Sauce 2 Cups All-Purpose Flour 0.5 Teaspoon Salt And Freshly Ground Black Pepper 1 Teaspoon Sweet Paprika 1 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper 3 Large Eggs 2 Cups Vegetable Oil Thoroughly clean calamari, slice into thick rings, and set aside. In a large bowl, add milk, lemon juice, and Tabasco and mix well. Stir in calamari, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. In a large resealable plastic bag, combine flour salt, paprika, & cayenne pepper. In a small bowl, lightly beat the eggs. Use a colander to drain calamari. Working in small batches, add calamari to flour mixture, seal bag, and shake until coated well. Dip floured calamari into egg mixture, allowing excess to drip back into the bowl. Transfer to a sheet pan. Repeat steps until all calamari are breaded. In a Dutch oven over medium-high heat, heat oil until it registers 360 degrees on a deep- frying thermometer. Line a platter with paper towels and set aside. In small batches, deep fry the calamari until golden brown & crispy, about 3-4 minutes. Transfer to prepared platter to drain. Serve hot with lemon wedges and Puttanesca sauce.
